The Club

Located near the coast about 15 minutes from the city centre, Henley Memorial Oval is ideally situated in a thriving junior area. With state of the art practice facilities, clubrooms and changerooms, in addition to a newly laid square, we are the envy of many clubs. Our second grade ground, at the specialist sports centre - Henley High School on Cudmore Terrace, is only a few hundered metres from the clubrooms.

Our Teams

We have four Senior Teams - A, B, C and D Grade, and six Junior teams playing in the SACA Grade competition (U17, 2 x U16, 2 x U14, and a Ray Sutton Shield side for Primary School age players). We also have two Under 13 teams, and one Under 15 team playing in the Western Suburbs Junior Cricket Association. Click here to learn more about our junior programme.

Mission Statement

West Torrens District Cricket Club exists to offer talented cricketers the opportunity to improve their skills and play grade cricket in successful sides at the highest level possible, with a view to selection in State and National sides.

Fundamental to this is the need to develop and encourage an interest in cricket among young players, fostering their interest in the sport and offering them the opportunity to learn the game and develop and improve their skills in a successful, competitive club environment.

A Brief History

The Club began in 1862 as the Hindmarsh Cricket Club with its headquarters at Lindsay Circus (now Hindmarsh Soccer Stadium) and has continued, with only a change of name in 1897, until the present day, making it the oldest cricket club in South Australia.

The Club moved to Thebarton Oval in 1921 where it remained until 1988 when it transferred to the adjacent King's Reserve. A lack of junior players and inadequate facilities saw a final move to the Henley Memorial Oval for the 1997-98 season.

Many famous names have worn the blue and gold cap. Affie Jarvis, Jack O'Connor, Ron Hamence, Bruce Dooland, Graham Hole, David Hookes and Ian Chappell played Test cricket for Australia while West Torrens players. Merv Waite (Australia), Jeff Crowe (New Zealand), Gladstone Small (England) and Jason Gallian (England) played Test cricket soon after leaving West Torrens.

Rick Darling, Rod McCurdy and Bradley Young have been Australian one day international representatives and Charlie Walker, Phil Ridings and Tim Neilsen were members of Australian touring teams.
