Junior Cricket At West Torrens

Situated in a thriving junior cummunity, West Torrens has a junior programme the envy of many clubs. With high quality training facilities, accredited coaches and dedicated coordinators, the kids are given a fantastic opportunity to represent state development squads, progress through the club's senior grades and hopefully onto state and test level.

The club fields a total of nine sides in various junior competitions throughout the season:

  • Primarily played on Saturday afternoons, we field two sides in each of the Under 14 & Under 16 SACA competitions. This would be considered the 'elite' weekly junior competition in the state.
  • In January each year, West Torrens field a side in the Shell Shield competition. This is held over a two week period and represents the pick of the Under 17 age group around the state.
  • For the younger players, West Torrens fields a side in the Ray Sutton Shield. Restricted to children attending primary school, this competition is held on Sunday afternoons.
  • Due to the flourishing junior population and interest in the game in our area, we also field an Under 15 and two Under 13 sides in the Western Suburbs Junior Cricket Association. These are played on Sundays mornings with our home grounds being Henley Primary and Grange Primary school.

The Club also runs the Saturday morning Primary School competition (Progressive, Average and Kanga) for schools in its area, and in association with the SACA also runs Have-a-Go Cricket Centres for young cricketers at several primary schools and at Henley Oval.
